Rising From the Ashes

Rising from the Ashes:

A Rookie Cop's Second Chance at Life

Can one moment really change your life? It can if that moment is miraculously surviving a plane crash.

On the way to his godson’s christening in his home country of Poland, Krzysztof suddenly found himself in a life-or-death situation that caused him to re-evaluate his entire existence. When his plane made an emergency landing, it wasn’t just that his life flashed before his eyes—it was that he found life unsatisfactory. In what he thought were his last moments on earth, Krzysztof found himself full of questions. Have I really accomplished what I wanted in my life? Am I proud of how I’ve lived and what I’ve done? When his life did not, in fact, end, it felt like a second chance to get things right. Suddenly, time seemed precious, and he was determined not to waste any more of it.

This is the story of that second chance. Having survived that harrowing experience, Krzysztof left the world of business behind in search of a profession where he could make a bigger impact on the world around him. He believed that if he could save only one life, he would have earned that second chance. This led him to the path of law enforcement, where he joined the police force in Philadelphia, starting out as a beat cop and then working his way to sergeant. Every day on the force brought new challenges and heart-pounding stories. The job asked him to run toward danger, toward explosions, fires, and the sound of gunshots.

The book includes moments of triumph and valuable learning experiences, ranging from making discretionary arrests to the simple act of ensuring the brake is on before you leave a squad car. At the center of it all are the people Krzysztof has encountered—yes, the ones who had broken the law, but also the ones that needed help. As the Krzysztof recounts the ways he’s tried to make the world a better place, one person at a time, and everything he’s learned along the way, you might find yourself inspired to reconstruct your own life and make it the way you always wished it could be.

Building Communities of Hope

Author: Rev. Dr. Anne Hays Egan

Would you like to bring more hope and power into your life? Can you see yourself as an influencer and force for positive change?

Each one of us, deep down, has the spirit and fire within to make positive changes that bring joy and hope to ourselves and others. Most of us have wondered more than once: “How can I make a difference?”  This book helps you answer that question!

This Expanded Version of Building Communities of Hope helps us to:

  • Believe in ourselves.
  • Take steps to improve our lives.
  • Address challenges and break through barriers.
  • Build hope that’s our own – that’s practical and works for us.
  • Strengthen our personal purpose and power.
  • Win friends, influence, lead, and support others.
  • Be a force for positive change in our communities.

Building Communities of Hope is a guide for those of us who yearn for a change in our lives. It’s a roadmap for creating positivity and a meaningful difference in our communities and society. It’s a resource for those who need support and motivation to recover from life’s challenges.

We can face multiple difficulties in life. Things like natural disasters, accidents, health challenges, economic setbacks, addiction, inequities, climate change, and war. We often feel overwhelmed when we go through these challenges. This book teaches that there is a way through and beyond these challenges, especially when we rely on each other. Together, we have the power to do just about anything. That power is life-changing. This book is a practical guide with lots of stories and examples.

Building Communities of Hope shares how people from many walks of life bring positive changes to their lives and those around them. Settings include Pennsylvania, New Mexico, Louisiana, California, New York, Texas, Wyoming, West Virginia, Puerto Rico, England, Central America, New Zealand, the Netherlands, and Ukraine. Readers shared they found practical tools from the stories about the people featured in the book. A few of the stories include:

  • The “little old lady in tennis shoes” who led a movement for positive change for older adults.
  • A boy who influenced others to help the homeless, which grew into a large housing nonprofit.
  • A model of recovery on a motorcycle who brought health and healing to communities.
  • An engine on fire who engaged her entire community to give and build resources for children.
  • Someone who moved from an office in a broom closet to lead sweeping change.
  • People who are living through health crises with love, faith, and hope.

Every step makes a difference.

Every single thing we do makes a difference. What we do to promote compassion and justice matters. Our work together builds over time, and creates positive change that can be unstoppable! That’s because every single act of kindness, compassion, love, shared action, advocacy, and justice has ripple effects. This my friend, is how we make lasting, positive changes in our lives and the lives of others. It’s how we influence others, lift each other up, and power up our communities!

You have the power within you!

You have a spiritual power and force deep within you. When connected to others and the energies of the universe, this power within you can create immense and positive change. You can connect with that spiritual “slipstream” and power up your life and the lives of those around you.

Let that spark in you connect with the energy all around you to light up your life. Connect with others. Support one another on the journey. Let that create a movement that powers up your life, and builds your community.

Uncle Jay has a Booboo

Research says that children with mentally ill parents or caregivers struggle more when adversity hits. They have poorer psychosocial behavioral tools in their repertoire to deal with it. But resilience can be developed through open communication between the child and caregiver. The book acts as a medium to facilitate this.

The book was kept open-ended intentionally so more caregivers with mental illnesses like depression, anxiety, ADHD, and bipolar disorder could help their littles understand the caregiver’s struggle and build empathy and resilience. Thus, acting as a tool, to help kids from these backgrounds to adapt better psycho socially.

Leadership With A Purpose

Leadership With A Purpose:

Motivating Your Engineers

Effectively motivating, inspiring and leading engineering professionals is about putting people first.

Here's how you do it.

In today’s world, effectively motivating and managing highly intelligent technology professionals is challenging. Around the world, people are more educated, informed and highly social about their careers and employers, making retention and employee happiness a full-time job. In fact, companies are beginning to recognize these impacts and have begun employing more “PeopleOps” type human resources professionals to tackle this head-on.

The reality is that most engineers don't leave jobs, they leave managers. While having a swanky and modern human resources strategy helps keep the company on the cutting edge of benefits and overall happiness, it does not solve the root problem – having good managers that motivate engineering teams.

In the remote and global workforce that we all participate in, establishing a healthy work culture with safe boundaries is an ongoing task that cannot be forced. Add in the complexities of global cultural differences and political phenomena; it’s every leader’s nightmare to manage well.

This book will cover what makes an engineering culture, how to cultivate it, and how to build trust with your teams.
After reading this book, you can effectively motivate, inspire and lead engineering professionals of all levels that are happy and loyal to you.

With years of experience within the software engineering and technology sectors, Robert Murphy has become an expert in building healthy company cultures and motivating engineering professionals.

Once deemed "The King of Culture" by a previous employer, he is passionate about helping other technology leaders on their mission to build highly effective teams. In this debut book, Robert describes his proven methods and provides a roadmap to successful leadership with a purpose!
